TBI, established as a secular, non-profit entity on August 27, 2001, has played a pivotal role in promoting Tchoukball nationwide. Joining the International Federation of Tchoukball (F.I.T.B.) in 2022, TBI has fostered strong connections with Tchoukball federations and associations globally. Following its inception, TBI successfully launched the first Italian Tchoukball championship in 2006, featuring 8 teams, and has since expanded to include A and B leagues along with junior championships. TBI’s efforts have significantly increased player engagement through targeted promotions in educational institutions and youth congregations, resulting in approximately 500 league players and several hundred participants in schools and recreational groups. A milestone was reached in 2008 when TBI, in collaboration with Milan’s Niguarda Hospital Spinal Unit, developed a wheelchair-adapted version of Tchoukball, leading to the official recognition of Wheelchair Tchoukball (WTB) rules by both TBI in 2009 and the F.I.T.B. in 2011. This adaptation has not only facilitated sport therapy and rehabilitation at Niguarda Hospital but also spurred the formation of three teams that engage in matches and a fledgling league, promoting WTB across Europe and beyond. TBI’s activities encompass a wide range of training (including teaching, referee, and coaching courses), promotional efforts (demonstrations and events), and competitive play (championships, tournaments, and friendly matches) on both national and international stages. This comprehensive approach has solidified TBI’s status as a cornerstone of Tchoukball’s growth and development within Italy and the broader international community
